DUNEDIN BAND CONTEST

“SPLENDIDLY CONDUCTED.” MR PARKINGTON’S VIEWS. ONE UNFORTUNATE INCIDENT. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 2. The Champion Redferu Band left for Sydney by flic Manuka to-day. Before going on board Mr W. M. Partington, conductor of the band, expressed the . band's appreciation of the treatment members liad received at the hands of the New Zealand public and the bauds against which Redfern had been ranged in competitios. ‘Tn all my experience, I have not aeon a contest carried out in such a splendid manner as that at Dunedin (his year.” he remarked. ‘‘The only regrettable incident in I connection with the contest was the seizure of the instruments of the Wellington Waterside Workers’ Band, previous to the conclusion of the competition, I have known this band for some years now, and the loss of its instruments was most unfortunate, and materially affected the musical standard of the contest. The Waterside Workers’ Band would have been rny hardest opponents on Saturday night, and although believing 1 would have beaten them they would certainly hafe been a difficult preposition. As it is wo are departing from New Zealand leaving the contest position not quite so satisfactory as I should have wished. The Waterside Workers wore the champion hand of the dominion, and they were a band we came over to meet. Consequently it was most disappointing that we did net have the privilege of meeting them again on Saturday night in the ‘‘Own I Choice" work; more especially as honours were almost even up till that true.”
