Mr Bruce, in replying to Mr Anstey, explained that the Government refused to be stampeded into framing its policy till the new Ministry had had time to make ai survey of its departments. In a general statement the Prime Minister reiterated that the Government proposed to encourage Empire trade, and emphasised tie necessity for an Empire Conference.
