JUNIOR UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS
GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION. AN INTERESTING ANALYSIS. .'From Ocr Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 16. The special geographical distribution of tho Junior University Scholarships awarded by the Senate was the subject of an interesting analysis by a well-known University professor to-day. Taking the list of scholars and the first five on the credit list, the distribution is as follows :—Wollinglinptou University District, 20: Auckland University District, 9; Canterbury University District. 4: Otago University District, 2. Besides this nine other candidates qualify for Taranaki scholarships of £6O each for the Wellington district. “We are often charged at Canterbury College,” said the professor, “with not securing a share of senior scholarships proportionate with other colleges, but for years past the schools in tho Canterbury University District have not fed tho college with scholars to anything like the same degree that schools in other university districts have fed theirs. In previous years Otago and Aucklnndhave had more than they have this year, but Canterbury College for years past has had but a noor share of entrance scholars. On tho supply of these must depend to a large extent the supply of candidates for senior scholarship honours.”
