ARRIVAL IN AUCKLAND. (Pek United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, January 16. The Jules Miohelet, with the French Mission aboard, arrived this morning. A series of official welcomes was later carried out. Commander Hothain tendered the first on behalf of the naval squadron. This was followed by Admiral Giliy visiting the Governor-General at 10 o’clock, and Viscount Jellicoe .returning the call an hour later. The Hon. C. J. Parr represented the Government in an official call at 11.30, Mr M’Kenzie (chairman of the Harbour Board) and Mr Gimson (Mayor) following. Admiral Giliy returned (ho call,; (his afternoon. A civic reception was accorded Admiral Giliy, his officers, and members of the French mission. The Hon. C. J. Parr, who represented the Government, dwell in an interesting manner on the important part the French played in the early life of New Zealand. In responding. Admiral Giliy spoke of his pleasure in visiting the dominion, saying: “Franco will ever revere (ho memory of the Anzacs and the gallant deeds of those of your dead who lie at rest beneath our soil. It is a friendship forged in the fires. of adversity and sealed with the blood of the dead. I am very glad to have an opportunity of visiting you, and am proud to be charged with bringing yon the greetings of all the people of France.” Ho trusted that the mission would draw closer the bonds of trade relationship and cement the friendly bends already established. In the evening a citizens’ “At Home” was hold in honour of the visitors. One of the most attractive features about the Jules Michelet denotes the purpose of its cruise in the South Pacific.
