ECONOMIC CONFERENCE
POSTPONEMENT PROBABLE. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright CAPETOWN, January 15. General Smuts, when interviewed regarding tho forthcoming Empire Economic Conference, said that he had received an invitation from Great Britain to at tend a conference in April, but ho had refused, the month being inconvenient. Ho thought also that April would be inconvenient to the other dominion Prime Ministers. Tho Now Zealand and Australian Prime Ministers were badly placed in Parliament, while the Canadian Prime Minister had no majority to .depend on. He hiniisclf was faced with a thorny parliamentary session, and he would be unable to leave. He thought that the conference would be abandoned considering the present crisis in Europe.—A. and N.Z.
