DUBLIN DOCTORS SUFFER. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, January 15. There was an extraordinary series of raids on leading doctors’ houses in Dublin on Saturday night. Armed men visited Dr Macaulcy’s home, and declined to accept an assurance that he was absent. They searched the house, and said that they would return every night till Dr Macanley appeared. Later they repeated the visit, searched exhaustively, smashed the telephone, and tore a knocker from the door. They visited Dr Macaulev’s brother’s house, and when told that he was absent they became excited. They ordered the servants into the basement, and searched the house, stealing jewellery valued at £IOO and damaging much furniture. They said that it was a good job for the doctor that he was absent. LONDON, January 15. The escape of Senator Coparty from a party of rebels by whom he was kidnapped and taken to the mountains is said by Senator Cogarty, who is a prominent Dublin physician, to have been meat thrilling. Four men called at his house and demanded his attendance at an urgent case. When he appeared he was faced with four revolvers. The armed men led him to a waiting motor car, and drove him to an empty bouse near Island bridge. The doctor, on asking to be allowed to go out for a breath of air,- was accompanied bv guards. As soon ns he was outside the door Dr Cogarty stripped off his coat, flung it over the guards’ heads, and fled, the armed men pursuing him. Finding that his onlv hope of escape was to cross the Liffev. Dr Cogarty dived into the icy water. The current carried him downstream, but eventually he reached a weir, by which he managed to struggle ashore. When he reached tho Phoenix Park Civic Guard station he was exhausted, and he took refuge there overnight.—A. and N.Z. Cable. DUBLIN TERRORISED. DESTROYING TRAINS AND TELEGRAPHS. LONDON, January 16. (Received Jan. 16, at 11.5 p.m.) Four executions were carried out at Roscrea, and one at Carlow, for possessing arms. The rebels are successfully terrorising Dublin. All tho telegraphs have been destroyed between the city and Cork, Limerick, Waterford, and Sligo. Armed gangs are scouring tho streets in powerful cars. Train wreckers are continuing their activities. The main line from Cork to Lublin is blocked. Troops are being rushed into the Roscommon and Sligo areas.—A. and N.Z. Cablg.
