FIRES.
GARAGE AND CARS DESTROYED. (Per United Press Association.) PAHIATUA, January 15. At Pongaroa on Saturday night Mr E. Roulston’s garage and five motor cars were burned. Two cars belonged to Mr Roulston and the others to visitors. It is reported that they were uninsured. The building was insured, and belonged to Mr E. Dickens, of Dannevirke. The origin of the fire is unknown. It is supposed to have started in the repair shop. BLAZE AT ONAKAKA. (Peb United Press Association.) NELSON,, January 15. A serious fire occurred at the Onakuka Iron and Steel Works at midnight on Saturday. The engine department, boilerhouse, and blacksmith’s shops were destroyed. Much of the machinery was damaged. The furnace and lift were saved. The origin of the outbreak is a mystery.
