ROSINA BUCKMAN RETURN

THREE POPULAR CONCERTS. Afteran extremely successful tour of Australia. Miss Rosina Buckmau, the worldfamous Now Zealand soprano, and her talented husband, Mr Mo.iirice d’Oisly. have returned to civo a number of farewell concerts in the dominion before their departure tor Europe. Throe concerts will bo given in His Majesty’s Theatre, on Saturday next. January 20, Monday, January 22. and "Wednesday. January 24. The famous singers •will be heard in new numbers from their apparently inexhaustible repertoire. As before, a feature of the concerts will be (he duets from standard opera, sung in English by Miss Buckman and Mr d’Oisly. At Saturday's" concert they will sing, for the first time in New Zealand, the famous “Garden Scone” duct from the greatest of all modern operas, “Boris Goudonov,” bv Modesto Moussorgsky. This remarkable duet is considered one of the most difficult in the whole range of opera, hut, ns interpreted by Miss Buckman and Mr d’Oisly. is said to bo a masterpiece of dramatic singing. Their memorable rendering of this duet was a large" factor in the successes achieved by those two great artists in Australia, where they have just completed a series of 50 concerts before audiences totalling nearly a hundred thousand people. Miss Buckman is due to commence a concert tour of Great Britain at the Royal Albert Hall, London, in May next, and is booked for an American tour in 1924. The demand for her services in grand opera is insistent in Europe, where the Continentol public is very anxious to hear the famous British prirna donna in “Butterfly,” “Isolde,” and other roles with which her name has been associated .in England. It is extremely unlikely that Miss Buckman will bo able to return to New Zealand for several years, and it may be assumed that, Dunedin musio-lovors will not bo slow to avail themselves of the opportunity of bearing the dominion's queen of song before her departure for the Old World. At the forthcoming concerts the distinguished singers will be supported by Mi ss Adelina Loon, whose ’cello playing was u, feature of the lasi tour. The accompaniments will again bo in the capable hands of Mr Percy Tvalm. 'Pile box plans for the three concerts will bo opened on Wednesday morning at the Bristol Piano Company.
