annual conference. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON. January 12. The Pharmaceutical Conference decided to-day to support a. scheme providing for tuition at the four universities in botany and chemistry. Suggestions for the establishment of a central pharmacy college were negatived. ’ PHARMACY'STUDENTS. BOARD’S SCHEME DISCUSSED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON. January 12. The Pharmacy Board's proposal that a scheme be adopted whereby students in pharmacy may undergo courses in the universities in connection with the ordinary curriculum was- discussed at considerable length at a sitting of the Pharmaceutical Conference. The subject was well threshed out at a previous conference, and the discussion centred round the question as to whether half a load is better than no bread —that is, whether the proposed scheme should be gone on with instead of going the whole length and endeavouring to establish a Pharmacy College. Opinion was fairly evenly divided, the principal argument against the establishment of a pharmacy college being the geographical difficulties.” However, several delegates considered it would bo belter to persevere in their endeavours to secure a pharmacy college than to agree to the " half-pie " scheme proposed. Other delegates pointed out that under the scheme proposed students would have to take;.a year’s course in botany and chemistry, ‘ and they contended that the former subject was of iio practical value to the student. “ There is nothing like taking the bull by tho horns and facing the big problem of a pharmacy college," was tho wav one delegate put it. Replying to the debate Mr F. Oaslle (chairman) said that his view was that if they established connection with the universities he had no. doubt that the professors would grant students special facilities which were not available to ordinary Students. He did not think it was within tho bounds of possibility to establish a pharmacy college for at least 10 years. It would be necessary to show the need for such a college, and at the present time half a loaf was better than no breed. The following remit was carried by 14 votes to 7: —‘‘That the progress by the Pharmacy Board towards a solution of the education difficulty be approved." , ■
