' ADDING UP THE FINES. “PUSSYFOOT” JOHNSON'S RETURN. Press Association—By Telegraph—‘■Copyrignt WASHINGTON, January 9. (Received Jan. 10, at 10.10 p.m.) The Department of Justice has announced that the violators of the prohibition laws who have been brought before the Federal Courts since July, i 921, have been fined 5,000,000 dollars and sentenced to a total of 2000 years in gaol. The interesting fact is pointed out that the Federal docket in connection with these States which were: wet before national prohibition are crowded with prohibition violation cases, while the States which had local prohibition have the fewest number of pending cases.—A. and N.Z.
