A REMARKABLE SALVAGE. “ The arrival at La Pallico of the French steam trawler Aunis, with the abandoned British steamer Moncyspinner, marked the completion,” states Lloyd’s Shipping Register, ‘‘of a remarkable instance of deep seasalvage.” The Moncyspinner, a vessel of just under a thousand tons gross, Santander on October 27 for Dunkirk with a cargo of minerals and general goods. She ran into the thick of the terrible gales which then -prevailed in the Bay of Biscay, and on tho following day her cargo shifted, she tooa a heavy list to starboard, and the crow wets compelled to abandon her, leaving her afloat on her beam ends. Fortunately the crew were picked up by tho French steamer La Fontaine, and landed at Gibraltar. On the news of file abandonment a salvage steamer was sent out from the French coast to seek the Moneyspinncr, but no trace of her was found, a result which occasioned no surprise, in view of the weather conditions. On Saturday, however, the Aunis, a powerful trawler, sent out a wireless message that she had the Moneyspinncr in tow, and news has since been published of the safe arrival of the two vessels. That an abandoned steamer, loaded with so heavy a cargo, should have floated for a week in weather such as we have recently experienced is a surprising occurrence, and the salvage is a matter for congratulation to all concerned.
