Mies Knight*, who unexpectedly beat Miss Howe and Mrs Hodges in previous games, met Miss Macfarlane in the final. Tilden played his first public match since tho operation to his finger, trouncing Francis Hunter (the holder of "the Indoor Championship), 3—6, 7—5, G—4. Tilden’s performance indicated that the loss of part of his stroke finger will have little effect on bis form. He was dazzlingly accurate in his placing, while his service was seemingly as good as ever.—A. and NZ. Cable. AMERICAN PLAYERS. OFFICIAL GRADED LIST. The list docs not include Australians, and is confined to residents of the United Slates. The first ten singles players are; Tilden, William Johnston, Richards, Williams, Wallace Johnston, Robert Kinsey, Shimidzu (n Japanese resident of New York), Howard Kinsey, Hunter, and Washburn. Tho three leading doubles players are: Tilden and Richards, the Kinsey Brothers, and Washburn and Williams. The women's list is headed by Mrs Mallory.—A. and N.2. Cable.
