FREE KINDERGARTEN ASSOCIATION.

On Tuesday afternoon a number of ladies from Roslyn and Kaikorai were entertained by Mrs J. R. GJendining at LitUobourne to discuss a proposal by the Dunedin Free Kindergarten Association to open a school in Kaixorai.' Aliss Alexander, tlio president of the association, spoke concerning its aims QAld objects and claimed that benefits were derived not only by the children but also by their mothers. On Tuesday evening tho committee of the Dunedin Free Kindergarten Association entertained the students and their friends at, a social evening m the Women’s Club Rooms, when diplomas were presented to the three students who had completed thencourse. Nearly 70 persons were present. Miss Alexander, the president, welcomed the students and their friends, expressed regret at the illness of the Hon. Mark Co non, and called upon Professor D. R. White to speak. Prolessor White said it was 50 years since? ho had first been asked to present diplomas to the kindergarten students. Thomson, AI.L.C., spoke of the splendid training kindergarten work was for all girls whether they intended taking it up as a profession or not, and conveyed tho good- wishes of Mr Oohen to the meeting. Professor White presented diplomas to Aliss .Macdonald (with honours in practical work and nature study), Aliss Sconlar (with honours in practical work), and Miss Anderson. Aliss Scott presented special book prizes to Misses Scoular, Reid, and Smith for their art work.,Miss Hancock played one or two pianoforte solos; Alosdames Hutchison, Gilkison, and Morrell acted a witty little dialogue; tho students gave some exhibitions of folk dances; and kindergarten games were played till supper time.
