The electric light and power system served by Waipori was cut off between 10.48 p.m. and 11.6 p.m. yesterday. The cause of the “shut down - ’ could not he definitely ascertained up to time of going to press this morning, but it is surmised that the line connecting Port Chalmers with the converter station at Halfway Bush had become interrupted in isorne way, and this caused a short circuit which affected the whole system. The Port Ohalmers line was disconnected, but the other services were interrupted between the times mentioned. It is estimated that 20,000 natives of India are killed each year by cobras, one of the deadliest of snakes.
