MOSGIEL CO-OPERATIVE DAIRY FACTORY, LIMITED

The sixth annual meeting , of shareholders in the above-named company was held last Saturday evening. The chairman of directors (Mr William Blackie) presided over a large attendance of shareholders. The report showed that the output of cheese for the eight months, SeptemberApril, was 161£ tons, and the average return Is Id per pound butler-fat for this period. For the remainder of the season the milk was separated, and the average price received by suppliers was Is 6id per pound butter-fat. Since its inception in 1918 this factory had gone steadily forward, and a comparison of figures showed that the amount of milk received, last season was more than double that of the opening season. There was every prospect that this season there would be a still further increase in the milk supply. ? The retiring directors—Messrs J. Bradbury and W. Taylor—were re-elected, and Mr John Logan was re-elected auditor. It was resolved that the company take its full quota of shares in the new Cooperative Butter Factory in Dunedin. At the conclusion of the business, in accordance with the custom of this company, a very enjoyable social hour was spent. In addition to the usual loyal toast of ‘"The King,” the following toasts ■ were honoured“The Dairying Industry,” proposed by Mr W. Craig and responded to by Mr A. Ross (Government Grader); “Local Industries,” proposed by Mr P. Brown and responded to by Mr J; Bradbury ; “The Company Staff,” proposed by Mr George Ford and responded to by Messrs James Findlay and William M‘Lean; “The Civil Service,” proposed by Mr William Blackie and responded to by Messrs A. Ross and Charles Findlay; “The Press,” proposed by Mr Willikm M'Lean and reby Mr Hugh Sprott; “The Directors,” proposed by Mr Charles Findlay and responded to by Messrs William Blackie and J. Bradbury: “Visitors,” proposed by Mr William Kirkland and responded to by. Messrs Charles Findlay, Thomas Blackie, and M'Lauchlan. In replying to the toast of “The Dairying Industry,” Mr Ross gave a particularly interesting address, and made a strorig plea for , the establishment of a herd-testing association in the district, with a view to increasing the ■ production of butter-fat in individual herds. Mr' Hunter (Dunedin) said that in the event of such an association being formed be was prepared to offer a prize for the cow producing the highest quantity of ■ butter-fat. ■ During the evening songs and recitations were given by Messrs Hawke, George Ford, and Charles M*Lean. The accompaniments were played by Mr James Leary, who was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks for his services.
