ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
RAILWAY FATALITY. (Per United Press Association.) TE EUm, July 20. A single woman, Gladys Howarth, about 34 years of age, was found with her face badly mutilated on the railway line near the station at Te, Kuiti at 6.15 a.m. today. It is not known whether she was a passenger by the train or had beeen crossing, and presumably was struck by the 2 a.m. train from Wellington. She was attended by Drs M'Rae and Will, who regard the injuries as serious. Hie woman was a resident of Auckland, and had been staying with her brother, Mr A. F. Howarth. solicitor, Te Kuiti. SOUTHLAND FARMER’S DEATH. INVERCARGILL. July 20. A mam named Denis Tobin, a farmer at Morton Mains, was found in* the Public Gardens to-day seriously ill, and died before the arrival of a doctor, apparently from the effects of poison. He leaves a wife and six children. [Deceased was a son of Mr Denis Tobin, of Wellington, and was about 53 years of age. He was borh at Mabel Bush, where he resided until about 20 years ago, when he purchased a farm on the Morton Mams subdivision. He married a daughter of the late Mr James Irving, of Mabel Bush, and has one son and five daughters. His brother James was drowned 1 in the Oreti River, near Winton, some nine years ago % Another brother, Edward, resides at Winton. All were powerfully-built men, and noted athletes.]
