James Francis Nelligan, who was extradited from Adelaide, pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial on a charge of obtaining credit by fraud from four firms, totalling £124 10s 9d. The arrangements which were made on Monday for the Dominion Conciliation Council in connection with the wool storemen’s dispute have now fallen through. It is reported that the employers have failed to agree among themselves on the course of action proposed. Conciliation Councils will now meet in each centre, the Wellington hearing being set down for July 27, the date proposed for the dominion conference. The proposal of the New Zealand Rifle Club’s executive to form a National Rifle Association of New Zealand in place of the existing Dominion Rifle Association was endorsed by a large meeting of Wellington riflemen to-night. The meeting unanimously approved of the whole scheme. Major-general Chaytor expressed to the chairman of the New Zealand Rifle dub's executive his approval, and wished .the new association every success. During the week further meetings are being held in various parts of the dominion. Representatives of British provision distributing houses are now _ interviewing the directors of dairy companies with reference to the next season’s output of both butter and cheese. For the coming season, up to the present no straight-out offers to buy nor to sell whole outputs arc reported, although a few odd parcels of butter have been bought up to the end of next month at round about Is 9d per pound, but no price appears to be available for shipment beyond that. No cheese, however, has been bought for immediate future delivery nor for the next season. Interviews with Home representatives are understood to be confined to the discussion of consignments only, the markets being considered still too high to discuss a straight-out purchase. A large number of North Island dairy companies will hold meetings of directors next month to consider specially the disposal of their outputs, and to decide on the policy to sell or to consign. PAKTATUA, July 19. The Governor-General (Lord Jellieoe) unveiled a district war memorial containing 121 names of fallen soldiers before a large attendance of visitors. Ho cave a short address and received a civic welcome by Major J. D. Wilson (county chairman), and Mr Samuel Bolton, r. behalf of the residents. A representative muster of returned soldiers, under Dr Patterson (president of the local association), was individually spoken to by the Governor-General. About* 1000 children were inspected, and Lady Jollicoe was presented with a bouquet 1;v a. little girl. They wore afterwards entertained at afternoon tea. and left_ for Woodville, accompanied by Mr A. M’Niool, the member for the district.
