DIAMOND WEDDING
The members of ( the South Dunedin Pres,bylerian Church entertained Mr and Mrs A. Kilgour, old membars of the congregation, at a social-gathering last night ;m the Reid Hall on the occasion of their diamond wedding. Tho proceedings were commenced with the Doxology and an appropriate prayer by the Rev. Mr Fairmaid, after which tho gathering entered into the social spirit of the evening and spent a couple of hours very enjoyably. The Rev. Mr Fair-maid, who presided, voiced the sentiments of the company whpn he said it was the wish of all Mr and Mrs kilgour s friends that they would yet enjoy many years, of. health and happiness. The programme was. composed almost wholly of Scottish items—dances, songs, recitations, and musical seloctions—the contributors being Mr and Mrs Niven, Mrs Roy, Mrs Attwell, Miss Ruby .Robinson, Miss Reekie, Miss Griffith, Messrs Ewart,, Brown, Swann, Stevens, and J. Kilgour, while* Mr Kilgour himself favoured his audience with a recitation. On behalt of the congregation the Rev. Mr Fairmaid presented Mr Kilgour with a handsome walking-stick and a hymn book, and Mrs Kilgour with a gold brooch and hymn book, for which Mr Kilgour replied in fitting terms, thanking tho donors very heartily. During the evening refreshments were -handed round by ladies of the congregation. Tho Rev. Mr Fairmaid read a minute, adopted by the office-bearers of the church, offering Mr and Mrs Kilgour cordial congratulations and expressing, the wish that they might bo spared to enjoy a prolonged eventide of life. - ... . The evening was closed with the National Anthem and “Auld Lang Syne.”
