HIS. MAJESTY’S THEATRE
SATURDAY NEXT. “Too good to be missed,” says the Wellington Dominion, commenting on the merits of Soutltwood’s English Quality Performers, -who will appear at His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday. All are reputed to be brilliant artists, but the management does not rely on the merits of the artists only—it has framed them into a picture of great- splendour by surrounding them with wonderful scenery, • gorgeous dresses, ’ on orchestra, and the greatest variety of instruments that has ever been seen in New. Zealand—the outfit of the trapp drummer cost in the vicinity of £IOOO, and contains the largest xylophone in the dominion, and voice tubes which give great lustre to the .vocal numbers. In addition to the 17 “Q.P.” artists, Nina Gordon, the talented mimic and impersonator of famous stage celebrities, is included in the combination, who deservedly possesses the reputation of being one of Britain’s cleverest performers at the piano. Nina Gordon is not only a wonderful mimic, she brings Harry Lauder, Madame Melba, Connie Ediss, Gladys Moncrieff, and other stars right before the listener; but she plays beautifully and sings as only a gifted and trained artist can. Miss Gordon comes from the Palace Theatre, London. Whilst : in New/ York she sang at a concert arranged by the Caledonian Society, and Harry Lauder, who was present, congratulated Miss. Gordon on her imitations of. himself, giving her permission to sing any of his, songs. Leonard Nelson, the popular comedian, will present- several new songs and character sketches. The. programme announced for the opening night is entitled “A Harvest of 'Humour and Harmony,” and contains plenty of excellent comedy. The vocalisation "is of an exceptionally high order, and is supported by a talented orchestra. The items throughout the entertainment are of such a varied nature that keen interest is maintained during the entire programme. The box plan is at the Bristol, where seats may be reserved without extra charge.
