MOSGIEL BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Mayor (Mr WTn. Allan) presided over t lie usual meeting nf the Taieri County Connell last evening.

The General Committee reported that the council had been gazetted a licensing authority under “The Explosive and Dangerous Goods Amendment Act, 1920,” and the dangerous goods by-law had been made applicable to tbo borough by Order-iu-Council under that Act. The committee recommended that Inspector Mitchell 'be appointed an inspector under the above Act. The Finance Committee reported that the jeceipts since last meeting had been £27 IBs 10d, and recommended the payment of accounts totalling £IOB os 10d.—Adopted. The Works Committee reported that the following matters had been attended to since last meeting: - During the month ordinary maintenance work had been attended to and a considerable portion of asphalt footpaths top-dressed. Three sewer connecti'ons had been laid to the boundary, and septic tanks and pumping had been attended to. The usual monthly visit had been made to the intakes and reservoir, and all dead ends and scour valves had been flushed. Thirteen connections to Wingatui service had been made and meters installed. The Taieri Rovers Football Club lias been granted permission to make a charge for admission to the ground on those Saturdays on which senior Rugby football matches were played, provided ladies and school children were admitted free, jnnd that the club paid to the council one-third of the net? gate receipts. Authority had been granted to yrect a stable for 'borough requirements on tne Recreation Ground adorning the detention (pound) paddock. Messrs W. D. Purvis and D. Ruthven have been appointed to the permanent staff of surfacemen.

J. D. Hnigh wrote requesting that the footpath be formed in front of his section at comer of Ayr and Forfar streets. —Report to be obtained for next meeting.

The request of the Taieri Pipe Band for the use of the body of Coronation Hall for practice on Thursday evenings was granted, on the conditions under which the band had held permission previously. It was resolved to support the motion catried by the Waihemo County Council that the auditing of hospital accounts should be performed free by the Government Audit Department. , The Taieri Poultry Society applied for use of the rending room for a special cat ehow of some GO exhibit? at the coming annual poultry show.—Granted. The estimates for 1922-23 were submitted, along with a report by tbe town clerk.
