THE CHURCH AND CHRISTIANITY.

TO THE EDITOB. Sir, — I heartily agree with Mr Siversten concerning the precepts and practice of Christianity by the clergy. I think we could do with a mission for the clergy, conducted by leading members of the laity, when perhaps something practical would, ensue. Most of the churches arc so concerned with small parochial questions that they never seem to have time or desire to discuss urgent social matters of a larger nature. False doctrine also is another reason of their failure to keep in touch with a great many people. The Anglican Church is practically Roman among the clergy, who are fast emptying the churches of their communion, while others deny the main teachings of Scripture, (hereby adding to the withdrawal of laity who are sound in Christian teachings and precepts. Then they wonder why the churches are empty I I am, etc.. Church of England. (This correspondence is dosed.—Ed. O.D.T.]
