THE PRIME MINISTER.
VISIT TO SAMOA POSTPONED. (Pra Ukitkd Pkms Association.) WELLINGTON, May 1. ' ~ Mr Massey said today: “On account of the many matters of great importance waitjn g to be dealt with in New Zealand at present I have very reluctantly been comii polled to postpone my intended, visit to •te Samoa. I had looked forward to meeting t the Samoan people of both races at the f principal centres of population and discussing ;V&th them the various questions which are ■ urgently requiring attention, ns well as dealing up any misunderstandings which * may exist; but I feel, and my colleagues Agree *with me, that for the present my •duty in this respect is clear. The short rei' Cess on this occasion has made the position ijiore difficult than would otherwise have ' been the cose. Parliament will meet in ’ a very • few weeks, and the business for the session must be prepared I need ; hardly say. however, that I will take tlie ■ first suitable opportunity of visiting Samoa, including as many as possible of the islands i', fear the Government of which New Zealand i..i# responsible.”
