OTAGO REFEREES’ CLUB

ANNUAT. MEETING, The annual meeting of the Otago Association Football Referees’ Club was held in Mr S. Mvora’s rooms. Octagon, last night, Mr R. Brown presiding. Mr Brown extended a, hearty welcome (o Messrs E. J. Anderson (chairman) and J. A. Mil bum, of the Otago Football Association, and asked O.F.A. members to give their very enthusiast in assistance in obtaining now members for tho Referees’ Chib. More games were played each year and more referees were needed. Mr Anderson, in (hanking the chairman for their welcome, said that he fully realised I lint the referees did not have the numerical strength they should have. His association endeavoured to enlist men and would do ils best to obtain more referees for this season. Last year the play was singularly clean, and it was no little plealint like men coming before h to answer charges of foul play. Ho hoped that this would continue, and said that tho O.F.A. would give the heartiest support. The suggestion that tho members of his executive should endeavour to obtain new members was not quite a feasible one, as they Inid a distinct duty to perforin, and Ibis might result in trouble. He hoped all littlo differences would be stink, and that the Referees’ Club and the O.F.A. would pull together. Mr Milburn said that the previous speaker and himself, when attending various football club annual meetings, had stressed (lie importance of not allowing active members of last year, who were not playing tins season, to drop mil, but to get flicni to join the Referees' Club. He hoped that the innnlier of Ihe referees w ould inerea.se. After tlm annual, report bad been adopted as read, Mr Brown vacated the chair in favour of Mr \V, Fleming, the president.
