THE CAMPAIGN CLOSED. RECORD POLL EXPECTED. BOTH LEADERS CONFIDENT. Press Association— By Telegraph-Copyright SYDNEY, March 24. Both political parties have closed their election campaigns. Great interest in the result is being displayed by all sections of the community, and there is every indication of a record poll. Both leaders are confident of victory, Mr Dooley stating that he expects a majority of five. FIRST PREFERENCE VOTES. INDICATIONS FAVOUR ANTILABOUR. SYDNEY, March 26. (Received March 26, at 5.5 p.m.) Incomplete State election returns on the first preference votes indicate the return of 35 Coalitionists, seven Progressives, and 40 Labourites. Both the Premier, Mr J. Dooley, and Sir George hnller (Leader of the Opposition) are safe, while Mr D. Levy (the former Speaker) is, so far, well behind. Mr J. J. G. M'Girr is leading for the Sydney seat. Sir G. Fuller states that he expects the final position of the House t 5 be; — 1 Labour 42 Anti-Labour 48 Mr Dooley declined to make any comment, as the figures are too incomplete. Mr W. E. Wearne, leader of the Coalition wing of the Progressives, is apparently secure. The voting in all the electorates is heavy. Compulsory enrolment is responsible for 105,595 more electors being on the roll than at the previous poll. ANTI-LABOUR’S GAINS. MAJORITY OF TEN PROBABLE. SYDNEY, March 26. (Received March 27, at 0.15 a.m.) Later figures show that the anti-Labour parties have gained eix seats and will probably win four more, giving them a majority of 10.
