NATIVE CLAIMS SETTLED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, March 24. For a long time now the Arawa tribe at Rotorua, and various sub-tribes, have claimed certain rights, fishing and others, over the Rotorua Hikes. Sir Francis Bell (Attorney-general), during his recent northern top, met the leading Natives and their legal representative in regard to this matter, but could not sec his wav to agree to all the claims put forward by tho Maoris, With a view to arranging a settlement a conference was hold litre to-dav. Sir Francis Bell representing tlie Government and Messrs A. T. Ngatn, M.P., and R. Levin, with Mr F. Earle, the Auckland barrister, acting on behalf of the Native claimants. It, is understood that an agreement satisfactory Irolh to the Government and to the Natives was arrived at.
