THE TIMARU SEAT
MR J. CRAIGIE TO STAND AS INDEPENDENT. (Feb United Frees Association.) TIMARU, March 23 Mr T. M. Wilford, Leader of the United Liberal Party, visited Timaru this week, and left to-day for Temuka. In consequence of Mr J. Craigie. M.P. for Timaru, seconding the Address-in-Reply for the Reform Government Mr Wilford asked him whether he intended to stand in tho Reform interests or for the new party next election. Mr Craigie replied that ho would stand as an independent. Mr Wilford then met representatives of local men, and 'made arrangements for the selection of a candidate for bis party. Names of well known and prominent citizens were suggested, but he preferred to leave final selection till full inquiries had been made. Mr Craigie never joined the new party.
