Taking advantage of smooth water at the Heads yesterday, Mr Wilkie, Harbour Board engineer, commenced to lay the moorings which will keep dredge 222 in position when the work of' driving ferro-concrete piles for the new Mole light beacon is being carried out. The Canadian Government Merchant Marine steamer Canadian Spinner, from Norfolk, via Auckland and Wellington, is due at Dunedin early next week. She will then call at Bluff, Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne. The John, from Wellington, is due here on Monday to load for Wanganui, via way ports. The Storm, from Lyttelton, is due at Dunedin to-day, and is scheduled to sail the same day for Wanganui, via porta. The Calm, from Lyttelton, is due here on Monday to load for Napier and Gisborne, via Timaru. and Lyttelton. The Gale is also expected to arrive here on Monday to take in cargo for Wanganui, - via Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui , The Kini, from Gisborne direct, should reach Dunedin on Monday, and is to sail the same day for Napier and Gisborne, via Oamaru, Timaru, and Lyttelton. The Wingatui, from Auckland, via Wellington and Lyttelton, is due here about March 30. After discharge she will load for Auckland, via East Coast ports. The Kaituna, from Lyttelton, should reach Dunedin to-day, and after completing discharge of her Australian cargo will go to .Greymouth, where she will load timber for Melbourne. The Karori, from Greymouth, via Wellington and Lyttelton, is due here to-morrow to discharge coal and timber. After completing discharge she will go to Port Chal- , mers for survey. The Waihemo, from Pacific Coast ports, via Auckland and Lyttelton, is due here ■bout Tuesday. She will complete discharge «t Melbourne and Sydney. The Palcona, from Melbourne, via Wellington and Lyttelton, is due at Dunedin on Sunday, and is to sail on Monday for Bluff and Melbourne. The Corinna, from Wellington, is due hers to-morrow, and is to sail the same day for Nelson and New Plymouth, via ports. The R.M.S. Tahiti, from San Francisco, via Papeete and Rarotonga, is due at Wei* lington on Monday. The R.M.S. Marama, en route from Wellington to San Francisco, left Pateet© op Thursday, the 16th inst., and is due at her destination on Monday. The Kaikorai is reported as having left Sydney on the 18th inst. for New Plymouth and Wellington. The vessel was due at New Plymouth yesterday, and at Wellington on Monday with general cargo and coal. The Union Company advises that the Kaitangata sailed from Newcastle on March 18 for Bluff, Picton, and Nelson. HAURAKI TO LOAD. The Union Steam Ship Company’s motor ship Hauraki is reported as having left Glasoow on March 17 for Pacific Coast ports, via Panama. The vessel is due at San Francisco on. April 30, and is to load at Vancouver during May for Australasian ports. R.M.S. NIAGARA. The Union Steam Ship Company advises that the R.M.S. Niagara left Vancourver on March 17 for Auckland and Sydney, via Honolulu and Suva. She is expected at Auckland on April 7. TREDENBAM FROM NEW ORLEANS. The steamer Trcdenham is expected to leave New Orleans this month with cargo for New Zealand and Australia. She will discharge at Auckland, Wellington, New Plymouth, Sydney, and Melbourne. ABEMAMA LOADS AT SYDNEY. The three-masted echooner Abemama, 337 ' tons, is reported to be loading general cargo • at Sydney for Auckland, and ie expected to anil at any time. TREGANTLB FROM CARDIFF. The steamer Tregantle, 5742 tons, is reported to have left Cardiff on February 12 and cleared Panama on March 2. She should «ach Auckland at the beginning of next week. THE EASTERNER The U.S. and A. steamer Easterner was to leave New York on March 4 for Auckland, Newcastle, Sydney, and Melbourne, but no advice haa been received of her sailing. She is expected at Auckland at the begin.ning of April. TASMANIA TO LOAD. SCOTTISH SHIRE LINE. Messrs Turnbull, Martin, and Co., local agents for the Scottish Shire Lino, advise that the Buteshire, from Sydney, should arrive at Bluff to-morrow. She will load general cargo ior London at that port, and at Port Chalmers and Wanganui. Wellington will be her final loading port. THE CITY OP HANKOW. Messrs Turnbull, Martin, and Co. report that the steamer City of Hankow has been further delayed in working her cargo at Lyttelton. Consequently she will not arrive at Dunedin till to-morrow at the earliest io discharge tho local portion of her New York cargo. AN EXTRAORDINARY ADVEIJTURE. A fisherman’s extraordinary adventure in a gale was reported at Grimsby, England, when the trawler Sesoetris landed a badly-injured deck hand named George Cook. Ho was engaged forward when a great sea crashed on dock and swept him overboard. He had been given up for lost when a second wave flung him back on deck, maimed, but living. THE STEAMER PERTH. The wreck of the steamer Perth, which on Tuesday last was broken in half by tho nor’-westerly seas, has shifted its position. The fore part moved out to seaward, while the engines have become more exposed in the after portion. In consequence of the break made in the hull, the cargo of timber with which the Perth left Greymouth only four months ago, became more exposed to tho buffeting of the seas, and quantities of it were washed away.

A RECORD VOYAGE. CORINTHIC'S PINE TRIP. The voyage of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion, liner Corinthio from Southampton to New Zealand was made in fine weather for the greater part of the journey, and was enjoyable in every way. The vessel made a good trip across the Atlantic, but was delayed at Panama for a day while repairs were carried out to her steering gear. Favoured by fine weather, the ship made a record passage, and one day shortly after leaving Panama logged a, record run of 350 miles for 24 hours. This is a record for the company's three ships, Athenic, lonic, and the previous record (346 miles) was also held by the Corinthic. When approaching the New Zeuland coast boisterous weather waa encountered, with unfavourable winds, the only bad weather on the trip. m CORINTHIC'S PASSENGERS.
