TAIERI COUNTY COUNCIL

ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer of the Taieri County Council (Mr I? B. Couston) has submitted the following report for the month of March: North and East Taieri.—The Halfway Bush to Muir’s road has been repaired with gravel from Milner's pit and surfaced throughout. Maintenance gravel has also been delivered by motor lorry on School road, Dairyman’s road, Gordon road, Wingatui road, and Centre road. A contract has been let to William Casey for carting the metal crushed at Mosgiel quarry to depots on the Main South read. Kaikorai and Otokia.—The Main South road at Look-out Point has been repaired witn metal, and all the potholes on the Kaikorai Valley road have been attended. The con-trs-ot for delivery of gravel on the road to Brighton has been completed. The streets of Brighton have been surfaced throughout, and the gravel required for repair will be quarried and delivered next month. Brinsdon's road and Mount Grand road have been surfaced, and a start made shifting back the fence at Kirkland’s corner, where the formation is to be widened. Cr Christie and the engineer report with regard to Mr M’Donald’s application for a crossing at the street leading off the Main South road, near Walton Park School, that the council does not regard the street referred to as a public road, and Mr M'Donald has been advised Jo that effect. In the event of Mr M'Donald requiring an entrance opposite his own property lower down, the council will insert (he pipes on the usual terms‘for a private crossing. Outrani and Maungatua.—The contract for metalling M'Neil’s road has been completed. Satisfactory progress has been made with the grading contract in Maungatua Riding, the roads attended being Kempshell’s road, Grainger’s road, Currie’s road, and Spark’s road. Tho formation of the Lee Canal road has been completed. The Outram-Hindon road has been repaired, and a start made with the cutting of the willows at the West Taieri bridge. Pipes have been ordered for tho culvert on Munro’s road. Deep Stream and Strakh-Taieri.—Good progress has been made with the Hindon grading contract, and the following roads have been attended since last reportßoyd’s road, Hinchcliff’s road, and the Hindon • to Lee Stream road, as tar as Fortification Creek. The quarry squad have this month completed work on the section of road from Clarks to Sutton Stream; all water-tables have been blasted and rooky bars removed, and the road graded throughout its length. This squad will next undertake the section of road from Sutton Stream to the railway. The roads at Pukerangi and the Reefs have been surfaced and the timber ha* been forwarded for repairs to Deep Stream footbridge and Deep Stream traffic bridge. The Mount Stoker road, and the roads to Murray’s, Small's, and Cameron’s have been surfaced and repaired, and further progress lias been made with the river protection work above the Colteshrook bridge.
