RAILWAY MANAGEMENT

REPRESENTATIONS HEARD. (Per United Press Association.) HASTINGS. March 22. The Acting Minister of Railways and the Genera] Manager heard representations by tho Borough Council and the Chamber of Commerce on various matters regarding railway management. The Minister said that tlie freight tariff, in which many anomalies would be wiped out, would soon be operating, and the railways would be in a better position to cope with the motor lorry traffic on the roads. Speaking of railway leasehold sections in tho centre of Hastings, tho Minister said he was altogether in favour of tenants being given the security of tenure, and would recommend flie Government to amend the conditions of lease to enable the leaseholders to erect substantial buildings. The Minister and Mr M'Villy loft for Dannevirk© by th© midday train, and will proceed to Wellington to-morrow.
