ST. VINCENT’S ORPHANAGE

BUILDING FUND. The American Tea and Gift Afternoon at the Overseaa Club Room yesterday, in aid of the St. Vincent’s Orphanage building fund, proved a very enjoyable and very successful function. The attendance was large, and an excellent, musical programme was rendered, the contributors being Mrs Burrows, Miss M’Pherson, Miss Bennett, and Miss Grant (pupils of Miss Ray Jackson), Mrs W. Evans. Mi-s Tnder and Mies London (songs). Miss Elma Finnerty (elocution), and boys from (be Christian Brothers’ School fp.n operetta “On Our Farm.’") The aceomjtanists were Miss Kca Oliver and Miss A. M'Grath. The programme was arranged V>v Mrs Baker. The arrangements for the business part of the afternoon were excellent. Mrs O’Neill, who was the organiser of the function, having the assistance of a hand of willing workers. A sweets and cake stall was in charge of the Misses Lawrence and Metcalfe, a flower stall in charge of Mrs Kel leher and Miss Hart, and tno gifts stall in charge of Mesdames Poppehvell and Hussey and Miss O’Neill. The afternoon tea was attended to bv Mrs Plaister and the Misses Peter. Brennan, Brvant, Todd, O’Neill, Walsh, Brown, and Green. A nail-driving and hat hat-trimming contest added interest to the general proceedings. The former was won bv Mrs Richards, and the latter by Mrs Plaister.
