Y.M.C.A. BOARD MEETING
The Y.M.C.A. board meeting was held on Monday evening, l.ho president, Mr Wilkinson, occupying tne chair. Correspondence was received from (!:e Council of Churches arranging for aggressive work during the winter months in conjunction with the Religious Work Committee of the Y.M.C.A. ; and from Mr N. Paterson, retiring as a director of the association. A special minute of sympathy was passed in connection with Mr Paterson's recent trouble, and an enthusiastic minute of appreciation for over 40 years’ service as a member, director, and later as vice-president of the Y.M.C.A. The committee reports showed that the usual work was getting into full swing, the boys' division having held their opening banquet. The membership totalled 279. 'I he Religious Work Committee recorded the visit of Mr Virgo, and outlined the series of addresses he had given. This report also mentioned tile weekly residents’ service, meeting for prayer, and the fact that four or five Bible study groups were in formation among younger men, and 17 in the boys’ division; also that the senior department expected to run special study groups in preacher training. The physical report emphasised the summer outdoor activities, swimming, and the formation under an organised constitution of the Leaders’ Corps. In all, 216 members had attended 28 classes during the month, with a total attendance of 602. The younger men's report allowed their membership to be 208. Twelve months previously the membership had been 94. The membership committee reported 296 senior members and 72 sustaining, with the boys and younger men making a total of 886. It was decided to run a campaign for 250 now members during April, it being understood that a dominion effort would be made at this time to raise the membership from 7600 to 10,000. The date for the annual meeting of the association was set for Friday, April 7, at 8 p.m. The Bishop of Ounrdin has kindly consented to speak on that ■Ovcneion.
