An Auckland Press Association message says that at the Methodist Conference the Rev. A. C. Lawry was reappointed general secretary for a period of two years. Mr J. F. Robieson, officer m charge of the local Tourist Bureau, has resumed duty again after an absence of two months on sick leave. , Our Middlcinardh correspondent reports that Mr and Mrs Tyndall, who have left Middlemarch, intend to visit their son, who is in the employment of the Government in Samoa, before settling down in retirement. Mr A. W. Burgess, the assistant supervisor of the monev order and savings bank branch at the Chief Post Office, Dunedin, has received promotion to the position of district accountant. Thames. Mr Burgess Will take up his new duties shortly. The members of the South Dunedin Licensing Committee yesterday met the chairman, Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M.. who is leaving Dunedin' in a few weeks to take Up the position of Senior. Magistrate at Christchurch, and presented him with a case of pipes. Those present were:—Messrs J. J. Marlow, P. Johnson, W. Wright,' A. Campbell, and H, L. Tapley; also Mr F. J. Lough, who was a member of the compijttee until he removed from Dunedin. Mr Marlow, in handing the gift to- Mr Widdowson, referred to the high esteem in which Mr Widdowson was held by the members of the committee, not only for his services as chairman, hut also for his high standing a^- a magistrate , and citizen. The others present spoke in a similar strain, and all expressed the best wishes. for Mr Widdowson’s success and happiness in Christchurch. Mr Widdowson suitably replied. He had always felt honoured, .he said, in being associated with the members of the committee.
