ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY

The monthly meeting of the Council of . the - Otago Acclimatisation, Society was held ‘last evening, there being present Messrs G. W. MTntoah (in the chair), C, S. Jenkins, J. Hungerford, C. Baker, Thos. Long, Williams, H. T. King, W. J. Robinson, U. P. M. Butterworlh, R. Conn, ahd R. Rutherford. ’■ Following is a summary of-the-Game Committee's report:—A' letter was received from the Department of Internal Affairs appointing Allan ?;/M‘Coll, of Paetau',' an “honorary ra ngeralso' enclosing copy of the new deeroulllng regulations; regulations - for deer shooting, and the shooting of native and imported game. Mr . Pinckney, of Glenary Station, Wadkaia, " repotted ' that there wore now enough, red doer in the. Waikaia Valley, to have a season this year, and suggested that • applications for, blocks be advertised. If/, was decided that this should bo done, and-Mr-Pinckney be asked to cut the country up, into two-gun blocks, to ba advertised at the" same time ad': the Pornohat a blocks. A sub-comrnittSe ' .consisting of Messrs M’lntosh, Butterworth, and Rodger were appointed to arrange. the Pomahaka blocks.—The report woe; adopted. The Angling Comrriittco' reported that J. Butler, of ' Roqklands, Deep Stream, had asked for some spar© fry; and an eel trap, and it was decided to instruct the ranger to send any fry that could be spared lip to Deep Stream, and also an ©el. trap. Applications for cel traps were also received from Messrs Leslie- George,, R. G. Yareoe, and J. S. Barlow, and they were to be informed that traps could be had on the usual terms. The. secretary of the Anglers’ Club (Clinton) wrote asking that the hut at .Burning Plains b© shifted to Swan’© bridge, and it was decided that the club bo permitted to do this at its own expense, and that they be allowed to collect the letting fees for three seasons to recoup part of the expense of removal. —It woe recommended thot the. Tapanui Anglers’ and Deed Stalkers’ Association bo -allowed the sum cf £5 for clearing th© ‘banks of the Rankleburn, the association contributing a like amount.—The report and recommendation s were adopted. A gift of books from Mr G, Howes was received with ' thanks. The matter of stocking the Waiau River (Southland) With Atlantic salmon ■ was discussed by the council, this river in Mr Ayson’s opinion being most suitable for these fish, if the Government oould see its way to introduce them again; and! it was recommended that th© Minister be advised that the was prepared to contribute £SO per annum- for three years if a well-devised scheme were formulated for stocking the Waiau River with Atlantic salmon, provided that the other’societies in the dominion were willing to assiet the object in view, and the secretary was instructed to forward a copy of this recommendation to the Minister and the other societies concerned.
