ARRIVAL OF DESERT GOLD. WINS TRY-OUT AGAINST EUNICE. The Auckland representative boat in'the forthcoming contest (Desert Gold) arrived in Dunedin by rail early on Saturday morning, and was transferred to the Bait Harbour brjr Messrs Crust and Crust. An -en-. thusiaatio gathering of yachtsmen were present on her arrival at the Boot Harbour, and the visiting yachtsmen expressed every satisfaction with the accommodation provided for them bv the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association. Desert Gold was launched, on January 27, 1917, and was the first boat-built under the Rules and Regulations governing the Jellicoe ono-design: class. The first race in which she competed, and which she won, waj at the Auckland regatta- on January 29, two days after she was launched. She has started in four Auckland anniversary regattas, and finished first in each. . Her record to date is 25 starts, 19 firsts, two seconds, three thirds, and one fourth. This record speaks for itself, and her owners are confident that the boat will give a good account of herself ■in _ the contests for tho. Interprovincial-Championship.-The Desert ■; Gold ■ was designed and built by Mr C. Bailey, jun., and is owned by Messrs J. Patrick and T.- Cloke. The crew, who have-sailed together for the bast seven years, are: J. Patrick .(skipper), T. Patrick (main sheet hand). F. Cloko (forward hand), J. Leo, and W.‘Oaundle. A recent-addi-tion to the crew is V. Lidgard, who is skipper of the _ champion 22ft mullet boat Maine. ‘ The oompetition crew of Desert Gold will-in all probability be chosen from these men,, although there are a 'number of Auckland yachtsmen still to arrive. The crew also, own And race the Speedwell, a sister ship to the Myro, which it will be remembered was purchased in Auckland and shipped here about 1910 for Messrs A. Grant, G. Kellett, and' R.
