GARDENS COMPETITION.

VEGETABLES FRUIT. The vegetable and fruit garden competition, held annually under the auspices of the Dunedin Amenities and Town Planning Society, was judged this year by Messrs F. Hollingworth and John L. Roy. 'lhe results give the following placing; —Miss Ruby Anderson. Oban street, Roslyn, 47 points, 1; Mrs H. Cross, Ooughtrey street, St. Clair, 41 points, ; Mrs Hunter, loyalty street, South. Dunedin, 40 points, 3; Mr A. C. Goodlet, Edgar street. Kaikorai, 39 points, 4. The judges’ remark as follow: —“We beg to report that the condition of all the gardens judged shows an improvement upon the previous year. There has been thoughtful rotation in crops and good cultivation. The first prize garden was a special feature, being skilfully cultivated in every part. We are pleased to congratulate the lady owner on her achievement.” . This competition has no area limit, amateur owners of gardens of any size being eligible to compete. It is recognised as the most useful of the society’s competitions, being judged solely from the utilitarian standpoint. Mr Hollingworth states that there ts a very largo attendance at present at the gardening classes conducted by the Horticultural Society, and that ve-y keen interest is being displayed. This will probably mean that next season there will be a considerable increase in the entries for the various competitions conducted by the Town Planning Society. ■
