TAIERI STREAMS OVERFLOW. . ; \ —— ; FLOOD NARROWLY AVERTED. It is fortunate that the hearvy rain which fell all day on Sunday abated when it did as otherwise considerable damage might have been caused through floods. On Sunday mgnt the Waipori overflowed its banks and flooded all tno low-lying land round about Berwick. At noon yesterday thb Outram-Berwiek and the Henley-Berwiok roads were still under water, . i but aa the 1 gauge at the Waipori Falls snowed that the river had. fallen three feet, and the weather continued fine no danger was anticipated from that quarter. At Middlemarch during Saturday night the .Taieri River also rose rapidly, and it an early hour yesterday the East Taieri farmers were warned to remove their stock. At 8 a.m. yesterday the gauge at Outram showed that the river had risen to lift 3in and at the Hindori’ gauge Bft of water was indicated.
