Mr J S. Sinclair left by the second express yesterday tor Timaru. ■ Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M., will not leave for Christchurch until the beginning of March. i Mr P. C. Corliss, Commissioner of Stamps Wellington, will retire from the Public Service at the end of the month. Mr G. I. M'Gregor, 8.A., LL.B., formerly of Dunedin, barrister and solicitor, has commenced the practice of his profession at Palmerston North. Sir E H. Bray and Lady Bray, * who arrived from England by the Arawa, intend to tour the dominion, and will make a point of visiting the various fishing resorts. Mr W. J. Morrell was a passenger by the second express yesterday for Auckland, where he will attend the sitting of the University Senate. The Rev. James Ings, of Knox Church, Parnell, -has been elected Moderator of the Auckland Presbytery for the ensuing six months. Air W. J. Napier, a well-known Auckland lawyer, has been elected a. Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, his proposer being the King’s librarian, the Hon. John Forte scue Ensign Lamberton. who is stationed at the Salvation Army branch. South Dunedin, has been transferred to Masterton. He will be succeeded by Ensign Ransom, of Balclntha. i Dr and Mrs Lindo Ferguson left by the second express yesterday for Auckland, where they will attend their eon’s wedding. Dr Ferguson will also be present at the sessions of the University Senate. A Wellington Press Association message announces the deatii of Mr Arthur T. Bate, the well-known stock sharebroker. He-was formerly prominent in cricket and football circles. He’ has been in ill-health for a considerable time. Dr George H. Thomson, until lately senior house _ surgeon at the Christchurch Hospital, is at present on furlough in Dunedin. After his approaching marriage to Miss Annie Morgan he will return to New Plymouth, where he will practice his profession.' Miss Nellie Coad. M.A.. of Wellington Girls’ College, president of the New Zealand Women’s Teachers’ Association and of the Wellington branch of the National Council of Women, and memßei; of tljo Council of Education, is spending a short holidav in Dunedin. Tho death is announced from Thames of Mr J. B. Laurenson, younger brother of the late Mr George Laurenson, , M.P. for Lyttelton. Mr Laurenson was a- wellknown business man in Christchurch up till a year or two ago. when he loft for the North Island to take up the management of the Hsematite Paint Company. Mr Laurenson took a prominent part in industrial matters lately, and was president of the Canterbury Industrial Association from 1913 to 1916. He was Mayor of Sumner for a term.
