NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE

"BEARING" THE MARKET. COMPLAINT IN PARLIAMENT. (Fbom Otjb Own Cobrespokdbht.) WELLINGTON, January 16. "Cable messages from interested parties come to our press and "bear' the. market for our produce and rob the producers uf millions of pounds every year. There should be some censorship." This opinion was expressed to-night by Mr Vigor Brown (Napier), who based it largely upon observations made recently while the Imperial Government's accumulated butter stocks were reported to be hanging over the market and threatening a serious depression. Tli© cablegrams had kept informing the people of this country, he said, that butter was coming down in price. There seemed to be an attempt to "bear" the market. As soon as there had appeared to be a probability of Government, action in Australia, and New Zealand to (fain control of the accumulated stocks the butter was. sold. He -thought it likely that the butter ! had actually been unloaded beforehand. Mr Massey told t.ho member that he could pot give him any fresh information on the question. He had noticed that it seemed rather a coincidence that as soon as the Govern men to'" of Australia and New Zealand indicated thoy might join to overcome the difficulty at, Home purchasers were found. There were men at Home whom he knew, and who were interested in the sale of New Zealand butter. He would l>e glad to hoax what they had to say in regard ts what had happened.
