■ SIR JOHN KIRK. Press Associqtion-tjßy Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, January 15. The death is announced of Sir John Kirk.—A. and N.Z. Cable. [Sir John Kirk wJs bom at Kegwoirth, in Leicestershire, in 1847, and after attending the Castle Donntngton Grammar School ho spent some years of his boyhood in Franco. At the ago of 16 he became clerk to -'the Pure Literature Society, and from 1873 to 1879, hq> occupied the position of assistant secretary to', the Ragged School Union. He, was best known, however, for his work in connection with the Shaftesbury Society and Ragged School Union, of which he was secretary, director, ,nnd treasurer, retaining the Let-mentioned position till ,tho time of hie death. Among his other activi--ties on behalf of philanthropic objects was tho organisation of Pearson’s Fresh Air Fund.] - s
