PORTOBELLO ROAD BOARD
The regular monthly meeting of the Portobello Bead Board was held on Thursday, tho following being present:—Messrs Henry Allan (chairman), S. Hinkley, D. Hnghes, J. Sawlo, S, N. Muir, and R. Lee. An apology for absence Was received from Mr C. H. Hall. On the recommendation of tho Finance Committee accounts amounting to £206 ISs 8d wore passed for payment. A letter was'received' from the secretary of tho Otago Motor Club asking that the portion of the Wickliffo Bay road which motorists are at present prohibited from using be opened for motor traffic.—lt was resolved that the-clerk should notify the Motor Club that this road was closed on a petition from the ratepayers, end that the application should,come from the ratepayers. A letter was received from the Secretary of Labour, Wellington, in reference to fixing tho day for the weekly statutory halfholiday.—lt was resolved that Wednesday be the Statutory half-holiday throughout the' district. , ’ . . A letter was read from tho secretary of the Otago Hospital Board, forwarding a copy of the main objections to the Hospitals and Charitable Aid Institutions Amendment Bill, now before Parliament, and asking tho board to request the member of Parliament for the district! to oppose the clauses referred to.— The Chairman was asked to interview Mr J; M. Dickson, M.P., with this end in view. A letter from' tho Commissioner of StampDuties in reference to amusement tax regulations was referred to the clerk for attention, the chairman of tho Coronation Hall Committee to be notified regarding the regulations. Mr J. M. Dickson, M.P., forwarded acopy of the Counties Amendment BiU.—■Received. With a view to taking legal prooedings against offenders, it was resolved' that the attention of the Health Officer be drawn to the fact that although a- tip had been provided in tho neighbourhood of the lagoon at Portobello, people were depositing rubbish where tho board had expressly declared by a notice tlmt tho locality was not to be used for such purpose. In order to obtain some outside assistance towards the maintenance of roads, it was decided to take a toll of the traffic on the Beach road from Dunedin to Portobello.
