PRINCESS THEATRE

The season of drama at the Princess Theatre is proving most popular with Dunedin patrons of the Fullers’ house, and this ■week’s production, “The Saint and the Sinner,” is maintaining the attraction net by the Rev. Frank Gorman’s iirst appearance in drama in “The Silence of Dean Maitland.” There are many featured in “The Saint and the Sinner” which help to make it a popular play. Tiro motive—that the saint is often the sinner—is a comforting doctrine to which most people would readily subscribe, and it is elaborated in an interesting way with a judicious leaning towards melodrama and an oft incurring note of comedy. The character of Martin Cranston, law student and then clergyman, gives Mr Gorman many opportunities tor enlarging his experience as a dramatic actor, and the situations are such as + o make his a popular part with the audience. Those who liked Mr Gorman as the dean will find himi bettor in his latest role, and have also the added attraction of two songs. The members of the company appearing in the story are capable of giving entire satisfaction in their parts, and inake tiio production as a whole good value in entertainment. Chief in this week’s play are Miss Leslie Adrienne, who plays the part of Kitty Tyrrol, a girl who has to go through much trouble and is befriended by Cranston ; Mr Austin Milroy, a good-hearted sinner: and Mr 0. R. Stanford, who supplies the lighter note in tie story. “The Saint and the Sinner” will bo repeated tonight and to-morrow, and those Last performances should not be missed by those who have not yet seen the play.
