Mr C- E. Statham, M.P., returned to Duhodin from the north on Tuesday night. Tho Rev. G. H. M’Ncur, accompanied by Mrs M'Neur, loft by the second express yesterday and will proceed direct to Canton. . Mr Don is the representative of the Foreign Missions Committee of tho Presbyterian Church of Now Zealand, and ho will visit the various mission stations and attend a conference at Shanghai. Tho death took place at tho residence of his daughter, Mrs W. R. Boyes, - Glonroy, on December 29, of Mr Edwin Williamson Gowdy. who was born at Thomdon, Yorkshire, _in 1340. The late Mr Gowdy arrived in Dunedin in 1859/ and was in the service of the Union Company for over 30 years. "He is survived by one son and four daughters, being predeceased by three sons and two daughters. A very pleasant evening was spent at Wharo Flat on Monday, when tho local residents gathered together to bid farewell to Miss and. Mr M'Quilkan, who hare disposed of their property and are leaving the district. A fully representative gathering was there, and advantage was taken to present the guests with a small token of the. esteem in which they are held, this taking tho form of a travelling rug for Miss' M'Quilkan and a Morris chair for Mr M'Quilkan. The chairman, Mr Wise, one of the oldest residents, in making the presentation, dwelt on tho many excellent dualities of Mr M'Quilkan and'his sister. The recipients suitably responded. An enjoyable, musical programme was carried out, aiid a dance followed.
