As Wellington intends to send a team down shortly, another interesting contest should result. Details of to-day’s matches :-r- • H. Goss (Canterbury) ,beat T. dark (Auckland). Glgrk took the first set,' and/ Goss, who was not playing so, accurately as on the previous day, won the second set. The tenth game in the- 'third set fcas a very long one, and Clark wanted ,biit a, point to equalise on several occasions. However, the game and set went to Goss, 6—4. - - Affer a very good match Ollivier gave another great .exhibition in defeating Bart- , loet. Driving, and volleying with precision, Bartleet played to his back-hand more consistently than Robson had done, and met with a fair measure of success. Bartleet’s foro-hand drive was .admirable, and hia clean, crisp shots were delightful to jvatch. Hie service was good, though some of its earlier vim had disappeared, doubtless owing to the severe strain imposed by so many important matches. , Robson was expected to defeat Greenwood, text the latter won in two seta.. Robson volleyed and drove wall, but missed many easy snots. Greenwood was not too sure on the back-hand. Beautiful passing by Greenwood and lightning serves by Robwere the most pleasing features of the match. • The game between Griffiths and Aitken was very dose. Griffiths won the first five ■games of the second set; blit the score was called 4—l by mistake. ’ He took the next two and set, 6—l. Griffiths seemed to tire in the third set. His volleying and driving deteriorated, and Aitken, who playea* steadily, throughout, 'won the set and match. Griffiths played a very plucky •game under the handicap of lameness, / Robson and Bartleet defeated Gosa and Aitken in straight sets. The Canterbury pair lobbed freely with good results,' but were sometimes beaten at their own game. Bartleet netted frequently, but-brought off some brilliant volleys. The match was somewhat disappointing, as none of the four struck hia best form.
