MEAT POOL

(Pkb United Fbww Association.) TIMARU, January 3. A large meeting was held at the Lyceum Theatre this morning to discuss-the meat pool. The speakers included Messrs T. D. Burnett, and J. Bitcheper, M.P., who gave explanations. Sir Francis Boyes (New Zealand Refrigerating Company) and' Mr Sims (Sims-Coopor) spoke against the scheme, Mr H. D. Acland (Sheepowners’ Union), and Mr J. B. H. Tripp desired modifications, and Mr J. O. N. Grigg sug. gested holding over for a year a motion expressing approval of the scheme. This was lost by 54 votes to .45. f HASTINGS, January 3. The president of the Hawke’s Bay Association and Pastoral Society says that he has been advised that the resolution, passed at the meat pool meeting at Hastings, and made the subject of Press Associatipn telegram last Friday, has. been interpreted as meaning that the meeting was iu favour of tile meat pool scheme put forward by the Government. Ho says that such is not the case., 'The.mooting, generally, was adverse to a compulsory meat pool and State control, but waa prepared' to consider ant voluntary pooling scheme under which the producer would sell and market his stock in any way he may think fit.
