In the Supremo Court this morning in the case of George Churchill and Alexander Chisholm, charged with conspiring to defraud by falsifying the time-sheets of the Union Company, the jury’s verdict was not guilty. AUCKLAND. August 10. The launch Eileen Bell, owned by Mr W. P. Bronlund, and valued at £ISOO, caught fire last night from an explosion caused by fumes from cargo. Mr Brqnlund had a narrow escape from the cabin, the roof of which was blown off. The City Brigade extinguished the flames. The cabin was destroyed, the hull somewhat demaged. and the engine damaged to the extent of £SOO. AUCKLAND. August 10. The money was hidden in the precincts of a. lodging house in Waihi. and was discovered by the police. Accused was fortrnllv charged this afternoon, and remanded till the 18th inst.
