(Received July 28, at 7.50 p.m.) As the floods in the northern rivers recede the reports from, the outlying districts, previously cut off by the flood waters, show that the losses of stock and crops and the damage generally are very serious and widespread. Much suffering was endured by tbe marooned people, and many sensational escapes are recorded. In a number of cases houses were washed away bodily. , The people in the flooded townships are now busilv cleaning up the deep mud which was deposited, in the streets and houses, removing the debris, including dead aniipals. and righting many houses winch were shifted from their foundations.
