“The Flag Lieutenant,” which will be screened to-night at the King’s Theatre, is a film version of one of the most successful stag© plays of the past decade. It was written by an .officer of the Royal Marines (Major W- P. Drury), so toe naval scenes are true to life as well as the scenes of Lbndon society. The play waa an instant success, and it had a remarkably long run,, in London, with the popular actor Cyril Maude in the lead. Many will remember the play when presented in New Zealand by Messrs J. C. Williamson, Ltd., with a very strong cast and headed by Tom Kingston and Gaston Mervale. The film version of course is bigger than the play—for the art of the kinema makes possible an even more vivid presentation of the fine effects which made the theatrical production so famous. Tile producers of tb© picture, the British Motion/ Picture Company, were assisted in every way by th© Admiralty, who placed every facility at th© disposal of th© company for the taking of the film under active service conditions, resulting in a magnificent series of naval pictures. A new Hank Mann comedy. “Hopping the_Bells.” a fine scenic, a new Gazette, and Pictorial Educator will also be rhown.
