HEATCOATE WILLIAMS SHIELD. WAITAKI v. PALMERSTON NORTH. (Pkb United Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., January 31. The Hcathconte Williams Shield match began to-day with a cold wind and occasional showers in the forenoon. . Palmerston North won the toss, and when the stumps wcro drawn the Waitaki (challengers) had failed to dislodge the Palmerston High School team. For Palmerston North Hodder batted brilliantly, and made 117 runs before his dismissal. Law is still in for 95, and bids fair to eclipse that total; Leet, who made 104, not out, in a competition game on Saturday was dismissed after compiling 62 with slashing orioket. Hollior, who was stumped for 56, played a stylish game. Waitaki’s bowling so far has been weak, but the fielding was particularly smart. The following are the scores:— Palmerston North.
