GRAND AND PLAZA THEATRES

There will bo another special three-hour change of programme at the Grand and Plaza Theatres to-day, when two features, together with excellent supports, will bo screened. The Arrow Film Corporation’s new picture, “ Fool’s Gold,” is a melodrama in six reels, which includes as a big sensation a mine on fire, with the miners rushing through a long flaming gallery. The attraction is said to be sure of a favourable reception, especially on account of its big scenes, but also because of its humanity and woll-actod characters. There are two love stories. The first is unhappy but in the second generation the children get the happiness their parents missed. Florence Turner again and again puts dramatic power in her role, and Mitchell Lewis draws a sterling Character, losing his miner’s roughness, but remaining true while Sarah Trues, as this man’s wife, is full of unpleasant selfishness. Evelyn Brent, as the younger generation heroine, shows her marked ability a-s an' actress. The background is a western mining country, with scenes full of variety and interest. The second feature of the programme is the “ Rose of the West,” in which William Fox and Madlaine Traverse take the chief roles. The story is of the Canadian Northwest ,in a section remote from civilisation. The play was considered so big that a month, it is said, was spent in getting the proper supporting cast for Miss Traverse. A special topical film, “ The Return of the Unknown Warrior,” will bo a feature of this programme.
