v FOUND DROWNED? (Pm Unitbd Press Association.' FOXTON, January 31. The body of Alfred Hutchinson, whose clothes were found on the Manawatu River bank at Piaka last Monday, was found on Friday, At the inquest a verdict was returned of “Found drowned.” * Deceased was single, middle-aged, and a flaxmill employee. AUCKLAND, January 31. The body of Samuel Woonton, aged 70 years, a gardener, was found in Auckland Harbour on Saturday. It had been immersed only a few hours. SAILING BOAT CAPSIZES. AUCKLAND, January 31. Edward Francis Kevey, a tailor, 37, a resident of Otahuhu, was drownea in the Takaki River by the capsizing of a sailing boat. The deceased and the five other occupants were thrown into the water. Two men supported the three ladies until rescued by a boat from the shore.
YOUNG WOMAN’S DEATH.* HAWERA. January 31,
Violet Honeyfield, single, and about 26 years old, while bathing with a young man named Brooks in a pool in the Waingongoro River yesterday afternoon got into difficulties. Brooks made every effort to get ber out, without result. A boy named Harris, who had previously gone to the pool to tell the two swimmers that the place was dangerous, went to call assistance, and soon several good swimmers were on the scene. The water was very deep,' and it was three-quarters of an hour before the body was recovered. Efforts at resuscitation were continued for over an hour, but were unsuccessful. Deceased came from New Plymouth.
SUPPOSED SUICIDE. NELSON, January 31. The body of a man, presumably that of Thomas Barron, was found hanging from a tree in Trafalgar square yesterday. Deceased was rescued front the harbour on January 20, when he stated he had walked over the wharf in the darkness. After treatment at the hospital he was discharged last Saturday, and was found dead, os stated, yesterday. A bank pass book’ and a reference contained the name of/Thomas Barron, but the coroner said there was no evidence to show that deceased was Thomas Barron. A photograph found on deceased was that of the dead man, and the coroner ordered it to be sent to deceased wife in Wellington for identification, The inquest was adjourned. FRACTURED LEG. WELLINGTON, January 31. Robert F. Semple, aged tl years, a son of the ex-M.P. for Wellington South, sustained a compound fracture of the right leg on Saturday through the overturning of a rock-laden truck at the Orongorongo ■waterworks.
